Greg Freeman Releases "Point and Shoot" + Announces new album Burnover

Today, Greg Freeman releases "Point and Shoot," the first single off his stellar new album Burnover, which will be out on August 22nd. Pre-order available now HERE

When Greg Freeman quietly released his debut LP I Looked Out in 2022, it had no PR campaign, label, or music industry promo, but still garnered praise from notable critics, with Steven Hyden of UPROXX calling it “my favorite album of 2022 that I discovered in 2023,” and Paste Magazine naming it among the 25 Best Debut Albums of the 2020s. The word-of-mouth success of that release had Freeman on a relentless tour schedule.

Lead single, "Point and Shoot" is reminiscent of Pavement with its jangly guitars and surreal lyricism and is premiered alongside an action packed, black and white music video featuring gamblers, cheats and musicians.

The opening track to the album, the foreboding “Point and Shoot” is a livewire track, with tangible momentum and an expansive arrangement. Explosive, unsettling, and undeniable, the 10 tracks presented on Burnover meld energetic indie rock with an ambling twang. It’s Freeman’s most adventurous and personal yet, cementing him as a singular songwriting talent.

"Making the video was very fun," Greg recalls. "Me and a bunch of friends basically drank and smoked in my basement for 6 straight hours.  In my mind, the song has to do with chasing desire, or trying to relive the past in some unhealthy way.  But it could be about a lot of things.  There's a line in the song, "you laughed and said 'yeah the crime of the century.'" That's something a cop told me after he pulled me over for speeding. Then he gave me a 300$ ticket."

Greg Freeman signs to Transgressive / Canvasback

‘ I Looked Out ’ is the debut album from Vermont’s finest, Greg Freeman. Having recently signed with Canvasback / Transgressive Records, his critically acclaimed debut album is being re-released today, complete with two bonus tracks. On 17th January 2025, the album will also be released for the first ever on vinyl. This reissue features a new rendition of “Long Distance Driver (Acoustic),” which includes a special collaboration with Merce Lemon. Speaking about the track, Greg says “I wrote this song a few years ago, when the world was entering a scary and uncertain time, and hope seemed fleeting and very far in the distance. The song is about wanting to find connection in such a world. In a way, it feels like an old song to me at this point, but that place of uncertainty feels even more pronounced than when I wrote it. The acoustic version is just more sparse. There’s a harmonica instead of a saxophone. There’s no drums either. Merce does the high part and I do the low part. I al...

Rocket signs to Transgressive /Canvasback

Rocket share new single “ Take Your Aim .” The blistering new track was written shortly after the release of their 2023 debut EP Versions of You , and will appear on the tracklist of the newly reissued EP, available on vinyl & CD for the first time via Transgressive Records / Canvasback, out April 18th. Pre-order is available HERE . The track is about “the indignant response to feeling misunderstood or taken advantage of by someone but not being able to confront them about it,”   says the band’s Alithea Tuttle , “It’s about a friendship that was built upon them taking more than they give and watching the friendship grow sour as time goes on. The verses illustrate the nature of the relationship; what that person says is what goes and no one can change their mind. The choruses fall back into the repetitiveness of overthinking; if this is all my fault like you say it is then take your aim.” Comprised of Tuttle (Bass, Vocals), Baron Rinzler (Guitar), Cooper Ladomade (Drums) a...
